At Red Oaks, we take a unique and inclusive approach to language learning. While children in Key Stage 2 are taught French as their modern foreign language, those in EYFS and Key Stage 1 follow our bespoke British Sign Language (BSL) scheme. This scheme has been developed by our Signed Bilingual Inclusion (SBI) Manager and Teacher of the Deaf, and is based on key vocabulary to support early communication.

As part of our inclusive ethos, this initiative ensures that all children gain foundational communication skills in BSL. This empowers every pupil to communicate effectively with their deaf and hearing-impaired peers, fostering a truly inclusive and supportive school community.
