Ways to Help at Home

Supporting Music at home
Red Oaks Primary School

  • Enjoy listening to a wide variety of different genres of Music.
  • Talk about the music that you enjoyed/listened to when you were younger.
  • Listen to a piece of music that you both have never heard of and talk about what you like/dislike about it.
  • Watch virtual or live concerts together. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra has a variety of different recordings that can be listened too.
  • Visit Young Voices and go onto the Young voices at home section. There are lots of lovely singing opportunities on there that can be watched again and again. They are live workshops that happened during lock down.
  • If your child shows interest in music, be supportive.
  • The Swindon Music Cooperative and the Swindon Music Service provide individual and group instrumental lessons. Get in contact with them to find out more.
  • Explore different instruments of the orchestra together. Here are some links that you could watch: George meets the orchestra and Kids meet an Opera singer
  • When reading books, add in sounds using voices or body percussion to make them more interesting and engaging.
  • Keep an eye on our school facebook page for updates on Music workshops or opportunities.
